Training camps

Camp 1 and 2
Training sessions are specially aimed at those who wish to expand and develop their game. During the two hours, they will cover both technical and tactical aspects, through individual and team drills. Prizes at stake!

Join Chiefs assistant coaches Tabai Matson and Neil Barnes at the University of Buenos Aires. Our team will give you a hands on session based around aspects of the 6 pillars of rugby coaching; Technical, Tactical, Physical, Nutrition, Mental Skills and Holistic Leadership.

These world class coaches will give you tools to deliver outstanding sessions to your teams.

Coach Bios

    Paul Hodder

    Main delivererPaul has vast experience in playing and coaching at all levels of the game, representing New Zealand at both cricket and rugby while still at school. Upon leaving school, Paul represented Waikato NPC before leaving for the UK to play for more than 10 years of premier club rugby. Returning to New Zealand in 2001, Paul worked as a rugby development officer for five years with Waikato Rugby after which he was appointed as the high performance manager with the same union. Professional coaching attached Paul to a four year stint in Japan with Kamaishi Seawaves followed by a year coaching St Peter’s Cambridge 1st XV.

    Paul is currently with the Chiefs Rugby Club as Chiefs Development Head Coach. The Chiefs utilise his expertise as a Chiefs U18 Resource Coach and NZ U20 Chiefs Franchise Convenor.

    Cole Brown

    Main delivererCole is an outstanding student of the game who is highly passionate about rugby in South America. Cole specializes in advanced catch and pass but brings with him a strong understanding of core skills done outstandingly well. Cole has coached premier club rugby in New Zealand for the last 3 years and his talents have been identified early and is now coaching representative Rugby in Taranaki.

    Colin Cooper

    Secondary deliverer (depending on availability)During Coops’ significant coaching career, he has been able to win some of the worlds most coveted titles. He has led Taranaki during two Ranfurly Shield tenures, as well winning Taranaki’s maiden New Zealand premiership title in 2014. Coops was at the helm of the Hurricanes for 8 years where he took them to semi-finals and finals appearances. Coop’s has been head coach of the Maori All Blacks and is the current head coach of the Gallagher Chiefs.

    Tabai Matson

    Secondary deliverer (depending on availability)Tab’s is the current assistant coach of the Gallagher Chiefs. Before that, he was an assistant coach for 3 years for the Crusaders in the Super Rugby competition. He has held both Attack and Defence roles for them during his time and is a specialist backs coach. Tab’s has coached Internationally both for the Maori All Blacks and Fiji. Tab’s is a highly intelligent coach who epitomises Chiefs Mana.

    Neil Barnes

    Secondary deliverer (depending on availability)Barnsey, just like our other Gallagher Chiefs coaches is a top man who loves hard work. Barnsey is one of New Zealand’s most decorated coaches at premier club level, and has coached internationally with Canada. Barnsey has been assistant coach with the Gallagher Chiefs since 2015.
